Switching Providers: The Process Made Simple.

It is sadly quite common that people are looking elsewhere when it comes to the provider that manages their home care package.

This can be for many reasons, but the most common reasons include:

- Lack of Communication

- Inconsistency of Services

- Issues with Accounts/Statements

- Choices not being Respected

Often, people will stay with a provider they are unhappy with because they simply do not know how to change providers.

People also avoid changing providers because they don't want to "hurt the feelings" of case managers or support workers that currently assist them.

Let's clear this up - you need to ensure that you are comfortable with the choice you have made when it comes to your provider.

Any great case manager will be happy for you to switch, knowing that you are independently maintaining your ability to choose your provider and support your wishes - so don't feel guilty!

How Do I Change?

The process is much simpler than it seems.

Once you have made your decision to switch providers, you need to find the provider you would like to transfer to.

You may base this decision on a range of things such as:

- Fees

- Faith/Religion Based

- Culture Specific

- Local Provider

It all depends on what is important to you!

Once you have made your decision, contact your chosen provider and let them know that you would like to switch to their service. They will likely arrange a day to come and visit with you to sign a Home Care Agreement.

You also need to inform your current provider of your choice to switch providers. This needs to be in writing. Email is always the fastest way of providing written notice. If you do not have access to email, maybe a loved one can assist.

You will need to look through your current Home Care Agreement to find out the Notice Period that you need to give your provider, this can vary anywhere between 7 - 60 days.

Once you have provided this to your current provider there is nothing else you need to do.

Your services will remain in place with your current provider until the last day of the notice period. Then your services will commence with your new provider.

Take this time to thank your care workers for their help, they can often become quite an important part of your life!

Switching providers may be something you have thought about many times - don't hesitate any longer.
